Crash Tested: Hidden Gear That Saved the Day

The hero of today’s story, MB, has been riding motorcycles for more than 25 years. With extensive experience on both paved and gravel roads, MB is no stranger to the thrill and risks of motorcycling. Some might argue that 25 years is just the beginning for a truly experienced rider, while others see it as a remarkable achievement, especially for those who have recently earned their motorcycle license and look up to veterans like MB as role models.

While motorcycling has always been a passion for MB because of the unparalleled sense of freedom it creates, we all know that with that excitement comes the automatic risk that every rider takes every day. As MB himself says at the beginning of its story: “I’ve always known that it’s not a matter of “if” you get in an accident – but “when”. It turns out that even after all the years of experience, it’s still possible to fall off your motorbike. While there’s a lot you can’t control, all you can do is be as prepared as possible, both in terms of skills and clothing. On the day of the event, MB’s preparation for the ride was certainly tested.

It was just a normal, unremarkable day when MB drove on the motorway and was enjoying it. Suddenly, the driver of a car in the other lane signaled a turn and started to pull out in front of him. The driver’s mistake here was clearly a failure to check the blind spot before changing lanes. MB realized in an instant that the car was inevitably turning right in front of him, into the lane he was driving in, and that the driver did not see him at all.

To avoid the collision, MB swerved sharply around them towards the shoulder and at one point expected to avoid the collision. However, at that moment the car ultimately hit his rear tire during their lane change. MB hit the ground with the bike and, as if the crash itself was not enough, the bike landed heavily on his right leg, pinning it beneath the weight. After recovering and slowly beginning to understand what was going on, MB rushed to do a check of himself and his gear: “My SKIN UH 03 armored motorcycle leggings literally saved my skin as my regular jeans were completely torn around the knee.
