The importance of safety when it comes to riding your bike is something that we often take for granted. That’s true for riding, as for any other sport in fact. But then the question is: why are so many of us not wearing protective apparel regularly? We still see too many riders wearing unsafe gear, not only in our cities but on country roads and motorways as well. As passionate motorcyclists and proud owners of a motorcycle gear brand, we have asked ourselves and our friends this question many times. The answer is not straightforward, and it is often a combination of different thing that pop on our minds before we get on our bikes – small things that could potentially make a big difference to our lives.
Riding is searching for freedom, living fearlessly, pushing boundaries and so much more. Protective apparel, as the name says, was born from the need of keeping us all safe while we do what we love. Every piece of clothing, or accessory, was engineered with different scenarios in mind, many of which we have never even imagined and don’t want to think about! Behind the creation of a motorcycle jacket or a pair of boots, but also items such as t-shirts and sweatshirts, there has to be a long process, which is often complex and takes into account many variables. What you see is the look of the final piece of clothing, which often appears simple to the naked eye. What is behind it, it is another story.
When it comes to riding apparel, the focus is so much on endurance and safety that often the aesthetic element is left behind. Jeans, jackets and boots have to keep you safe no matter the conditions you are riding in. The obsession with the engineering and technical aspects of motorcycle gear means that its designs can be bland or obsolete. This might put off some people who then decide not to wear the gear on every ride. Some riders, particularly those just starting to embrace their new passion for motorcycles, will be excited at the very beginning and get the full gear from day 1, but as time passes by they might end up not using it regularly. Perhaps they don’t like the look of it, so they choose to wear it on long rides only. Truth is, you can’t make exceptions based on the length of the journey, the weather conditions, terrain or anything else which you think may be important or not. Every ride is a new one. Every ride has its own story. Nobody has ever planned to have an accident, so when you get on you never know what is around the corner. And that is not just for riding, it’s a rule for life!
Here at Pando Moto, we strongly believe that you should never compromise on safety, but we also know that clothing represents a part of our identity. All of us motorcyclists find ourselves wearing protective apparel day in day out, much more often than we think! We all start out as occasional riders, but many quickly come to discover a real passion for the sport, and it becomes something they can’t live without. Therefore, you want to wear something that speaks about who you are: clothing that puts you at ease, both in the way you feel and in the way you look. Apparel has to be something you are proud to wear, in the same way as you are proud of your bike and proud to call yourself a rider.
Pando Moto believes protective gear has to be safe, but also feel comfortable, and look good as well! Too much to ask? Maybe, but only when motorcycle apparel is all these things combined we know that our riders will be using it on every journey. This is what we want for our customers: for them to be safe while wearing something that makes them feel good. We believe that safety and style can work together, and we strive to put this message across in every piece of gear you see on our site. The good news is, there is so much gear to choose from! We add new lines regularly to give our customers different styles to choose from, so they can mix and max according to what feels right for them. Our aim is to give you something that you will really be wearing on every ride; something that you do want to wear. We are proud to bring to you high-tech riding gear which is highly protective, comfortable and stylish – so you never again have to choose between feeling safe and looking good.
Riding doesn’t come without risks, no matter if you are a newbie or a skilled motorcyclist. 50% of riders will experience a bike crash over time, and wearing the right gear can make the difference between getting hurt and getting up and moving on. By no means this is meant to be a negative article, quite the opposite in fact! By taking account of the risks you are potentially incurring, and doing something to protect yourself, you know that you can safely get on your bike and enjoy each and every ride. To think “that’s not going to happen to me” is the wrong mindset for a rider, one that can be very dangerous. We love riding and we have to embrace this passion with all its ups and downs. There are many things you can compromise on, but safety is not one of them. Nobody ever wants to think about the worse, especially when you ride! So let the engineers and designers worry about it, and work hard to create pieces of apparel with your safety in mind. All you need to do is buying the right gear, make sure you wear it every time you get on your bike and enjoy your ride!
