Crash Tested: A Split Second and the Jeans That Took the Hit

Track riding is often considered a safer place to push your limits. There is no oncoming traffic, no intersections, and no unexpected vehicles crossing your path. But even in a controlled environment, a single moment of lost focus can change everything. For one rider at New River All American Speedway in Jacksonville, North Carolina, one glance at the speedometer was all it took.

A Day at the Track

On May 17th, the rider headed to New River All American Speedway for his first experience on a small oval track. The weather was ideal, with clear skies, dry pavement, and warm temperatures. The track required only minimal motorcycle riding gear, but he chose to wear fully certified protective equipment anyway.

His setup included Pando Moto James Regular Blue motorcycle jeans. The only compromise was his footwear. Earlier that morning, the zipper on his riding boots had broken, forcing him to wear a pair of leather high-top Nike shoes instead.

One Glance Too Long

The first laps went exactly as planned. As confidence grew, so did his pace.

Approaching a corner on his third lap, he glanced down at his speed while braking. That brief distraction caused him to enter the turn too wide. When he looked back up, his eyes locked onto the outside wall.

Target fixation took over.

Despite braking from roughly 70 mph to around 40 to 45 mph, he couldn't recover the line in time. The motorcycle struck the wall and continued scraping alongside it for several seconds before he was thrown from the bike onto the asphalt.

Walking Away

Track medics examined him immediately after the crash and initially found no serious injuries. Feeling fortunate, he rode his motorcycle home, changed vehicles, and even attended commitments later that day before the pain gradually set in.

Eventually, friends convinced him to visit the emergency room, where X-rays confirmed he had escaped with body aches, bruising, and minor scrapes around one knee and his ankles.

Considering the impact, the outcome could have been far worse.

The Gear That Protected Him

Throughout the crash, his Pando Moto James Regular Blue motorcycle jeans played a critical role in protecting his lower body.

As the motorcycle scraped along the concrete wall, the jeans absorbed the abrasion that would otherwise have reached his skin. Aside from a small hole near the pocket, which he believes was caused by the phone he was carrying, the jeans remained remarkably intact despite several seconds of grinding against the wall.

He credits the combination of the jeans' abrasion resistance and his motorcycle's frame sliders with preventing serious injuries to his right leg. The frame sliders kept his leg from being crushed against the wall, while the jeans protected his skin from the prolonged contact with the concrete. Even after being thrown onto the asphalt, the integrated knee armor helped reduce the impact, leaving him with only a minor scrape about the size of a thumb.

Built for Real-World Protection

The Pando Moto James Regular Blue jeans are designed to deliver everyday comfort without compromising safety. Certified to the AA level under EN 17092, they are constructed from durable CORDURA® stretch denim, providing excellent abrasion resistance while maintaining the look and feel of regular jeans. They were equipped with CE Level 2 knee armor and CE Level 1 hip armor, offering certified impact protection in the areas that matter most. Their single-layer construction keeps them lightweight and comfortable, making them ideal for both everyday riding and demanding situations when protection truly counts.

In this crash, those features proved their worth. The jeans withstood prolonged abrasion against a concrete wall while helping protect the rider from severe skin injuries, allowing him to walk away with only minor wounds.

A Rider's Reflection

The experience reinforced a belief he had always held.

" I have always been a big advocate for wearing protective gear all the time. And not just any gear, gear from reputable brands with actual certifications for abrasion resistance and impact as well, brands such as your team at Pandomoto."

He also emphasized that protective equipment works best as a complete system.

Alongside his men's motorcycle gear, the motorcycle's frame sliders played an important role in preventing his leg from being trapped against the wall, further reducing the severity of the crash.

The Takeaway

A racetrack removes many of the hazards found on public roads, but it cannot eliminate human error. Sometimes, all it takes is a quick glance away from the corner ahead.

When that happens, quality motorcycle gear can make the difference between walking away with a few bruises and facing life-changing injuries.
