Crash Tested: A Concrete Wall and Jeans That Saved a Life

Some crashes happen suddenly. Others are brutal. And then there are those that are both where everything happens in less than a second, but the consequences can last a lifetime.

For Álvaro, a ride through the winding roads of Tenerife became exactly that kind of moment.

The Final Stretch Home

On April 3rd, 2026, at around 6:10 p.m., Álvaro was riding his Yamaha MT-03 along the TF-28 road near El Río in Tenerife, Spain. After completing a 180 km ride, he was just a few kilometers from home.

Fatigue was starting to set in, so he reduced his speed to around 45 km/h well below the 90 km/h speed limit. Visibility was good, and the road appeared safe and familiar.

But mid-corner, everything changed.

The Invisible Hazard

A patch of gravel sat in the center of the lane almost impossible to notice until it was too late. As Álvaro leaned into the turn, the front tire instantly lost traction. The bike dropped into a lowside but almost immediately regained grip on clean asphalt. What followed next was violent.

The sudden traction recovery triggered a high-side catapult effect. In less than a second, Álvaro was thrown upward, completely losing control, before slamming head-on into a concrete wall at approximately 42 km/h.

The Impact

The collision was severe. Before hitting the wall, Álvaro slid violently across his own motorcycle over hard metal components like the triple tree and handlebars absorbing massive friction and impact energy.

The motorcycle was nearly completely destroyed. The triple tree snapped, components bent and shattered, and the bike was left almost beyond repair.

But Álvaro walked away safe because of the men's biker jeans he wore that day.

The Gear That Took the Force

At the center of that outcome were his Pando Moto Robby Slim Black jeans. During the crash, the jeans endured extreme stress. However, they only showed some damage from the severe impact – a few punctures from contact with the motorcycle, friction burns, and structural strain from absorbing the impact. But most importantly, the fabric never failed.

They held together through both the slide and the impact with the bike and the wall, protecting his skin almost entirely.

Despite the severity of the crash, Álvaro suffered no fractures and almost no road rash. Only bruising a clear sign of how much energy the motorcycle gear absorbed.

“Walking out of the hospital 24 hours later is a testament to the protection of your gear,” Álvaro said.

Built for Extreme Conditions

The Robby Slim Black jeans are engineered for real-world impact and abrasion resistance.

Made from high-performance materials – 12oz super-stretch CORDURA® – and reinforced with CE Level 1 knee and hip armor, they are designed to withstand extreme forces while maintaining structural integrity. Most of all, the jeans are AA-rated (EN 17092-2), the certification level for motorcycle garments.

In Álvaro’s case, they endured sliding across metal, high-impact forces, and direct contact with concrete, and still performed.

A Rider’s Perspective

After the crash, Álvaro’s perspective on riding and motorcycle riding gear changed.

“My advice to other riders is to never underestimate speed. Even at 40 km/h, the impact energy is enough to destroy a body,” he says.

For him, investing in high-quality men’s motorcycle gear is no longer optional. It’s essential.

“It’s not an expense. It is a big part of the reason I can walk today instead of still being in a hospital bed.”

The Takeaway

Álvaro’s story is a powerful reminder that danger doesn’t always come from pushing limits. Sometimes, it comes from something as small as an unseen hazard on an otherwise perfect road.

And when everything goes wrong in a split second, the right motorcycle gear can be the difference between walking away… or not.

“Thank you for engineering protective gear that truly saves lives,” were Álvaro’s final words to the team.
