The Dyneema® production process begins with a patented gel-spinning process, whereby fibers are drawn, brought to high-heat, elongated, and cooled. Molecular alignment is obtained through a cycle of stretching and spinning, maximizing crystallization and minimizing density. With Dyneema’s unbeatable long molecular chains, the load can be transferred to the polymer backbone with the utmost precision. Ultimately, it’s stronger yet lighter than anything else of its kind: 15 times stronger than steel and 40% stronger than aramids (both on a weight for weight basis). It’s so lightweight, in fact, that it has the ability to float on water yet not absorb moisture. UV and chemical-resistance seal the deal.
