Some journeys are remembered for their beauty, feelings and the views – others become life lessons. For Katharina, an experienced motorcycle rider who enjoys exploring Germany on two wheels, what started as a peaceful October ride through the Harz region turned into a true test of resilience. What separated her from serious injuries that day was the protective Shell UH 03 – Armored Motorcycle Base Layer Shirt.
It was meant to be a calm, leisurely day trip. The sun was shining through the trees, the temperature hovered around +2°C, and the winding roads stretched invitingly through the hills. Riding in a group at a moderate pace, Katharina was already slowing down to around 50 km/h, preparing to stop.
Suddenly – impact. Without warning, a loud roar erupted behind her. A car, driven by someone not paying attention, smashed directly into the back of her motorcycle. The collision threw Katharina into the air. Her helmet absorbed the first impact, shattering in the process. Her left collarbone fractured on contact with the road. Her body continued to slide nearly 10 meters down the pavement, scraping along cold asphalt and scattered stones.
Despite the severity of the crash, Katharina escaped with only a broken collarbone. The reason? The Shell UH 03 – Armored Motorcycle Base Layer Shirt, worn under her jacket. Made from BALISTEX®, a highly abrasion-resistant and impact-absorbing fabric, and equipped with CE-certified armor, the layer became her shield. Her back and the rest of her body remained unscathed.
My jacket had no holes, no visible damage,” she shared. “The Shell saved my back. Without it, the injuries would have been far more serious.” Even after the tumble and slide, she stood up and walked away from the road on her own.

Her helmet was shattered, and the motorcycle was nearly totaled (with repair costs close to €11,000), but most importantly, she was alive and mostly unharmed.
The weather was cold but dry. The road was narrow, winding, and not heavily trafficked. One inattentive driver changed everything. The bike was hauled away by roadside assistance while the helmet totally discarded. But Katharina’s health remained intact, thanks to her motocycle gear for women.
Only later did she realize just how critical that piece of equipment had been. “It could’ve been a lot worse,” she admitted. “The Shell made all the difference.”
This story is not just about a crash. It’s a reminder of how vital proper motorcycle clothing is. The Pando Moto Shell base layer might not be the flashiest part of your riding outfit – but when it counts, it can be the most important.“ I just wanted to say thank you,” Katharina wrote. And that “thank you” came from the heart of a biker who knows: good motorcycle riding gear isn’t just clothing. It’s protection. It’s life-saving.
