The San Francisco Bay Area is known for its winding roads and stunning views, making it a haven for motorcycle enthusiasts. For riders, it’s not just about the beauty but also the challenge that comes with navigating these curves. Lexi, an enthusiastic rider, was excited to join her sport bike buddies for a ride through this legendary landscape, ready to test her beloved Triumph Street Triple R.
Though Lexi was relatively new to the scene compared to her seasoned friends, she was eager to keep up. “I had done a few laps and was feeling pretty good about myself,” Lexi recalled. “But then, on the way out for the day, I tried too hard to keep up with one of my experienced friends.” In an attempt to match her friend’s speed, Lexi took a sharp turn at 40 miles per hour, only to realize, moments too late, that she had pushed herself too far. With the road narrowing and a tree ahead, Lexi had two choices: hit the tree or lean into the turn. Without hesitation, she chose the latter and managed to avoid the tree, but the bike skidded off the road and ended up in a roadside ditch full of wood chips and rotten branches. The bike began to smoke, but Lexi herself was remarkably unharmed. Her friend quickly turned around, calling for help.
Despite the scare, Lexi only experienced bruises on her legs and arms, with a small scrape on the side and back of her thigh. She compared the injury to a childhood scraped knee: “Nothing was broken or out of place, and no more bleeding than a child’s scraped knee on the playground.” As she stood up, dazed, her main concern was for her bike, not her own safety.
Lexi explained, “I walked away from that crash grief-stricken about the state of my bike, but otherwise unharmed.” When her friend approached, worried, Lexi reassured him, “I’m fine, thanks to these,” pointing to her Pando Mila Cargo Pants. The pants, designed to protect riders in the event of a crash, had barely shown any signs of damage. “My Milas are virtually unchanged, except for some internal scraping where it rubbed against the back of my thigh,” Lexi added. “Without them, I may have experienced proper road rash.”
Standing on the side of the road, Lexi reflected on her good fortune. “Luck played a big role,” she acknowledged, but it was also the investment in quality riding gear that kept her from worse injuries. “I was willing to spend a lot on quality riding clothing because I wanted to be safe in the event of a crash, and not only did the gear keep me safe, it barely even seemed to be affected by a 40mph slide and tumble.”
At Pando, we take pride in creating stylish and comfortable clothing that also ensures rider safety. We’re thrilled that Lexi’s Pando gear lived up to its promise and helped her avoid serious injury during her ride.
