Crash Tested: How the Right Gear—and Some Luck—Saved My Life

February 15, 2026

While some rides feel like freedom, others serve as lessons. Renee’s trip through North Georgia was both—a sobering reminder of how thin the line can be between adrenaline and danger. But it also proved that preparation, protective gear, and a bit of luck can make all the difference. Even if you’re only going for a short ride.

A Casual Ride That Changed Everything

June 5th began like any other perfect day for a ride in nature. The weather was warm and dry, the Appalachian hills alive with greenery. Renee, a relatively new motorcycle rider gaining confidence with every ride, was cruising on her Kawasaki Z400 along Highway 136 near Burnt Mountain Overlook.

Enjoying what was supposed to be a short ride (she planned to be out for less than an hour), something went wrong. Another biker joined her route, and in a moment of distraction, Renee lost control of her bike as she entered an upcoming turn. Her bike veered off the road and hit a large dirt pile hard. The result? Renee was sent flying off her bike and into the dirt.

She was quickly rushed to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. The diagnosis: a grade five liver laceration—the most severe kind. Incredibly, she didn’t need surgery. After days of monitoring, Renee was released home. Doctors called her survival nothing short of a miracle:

“They said I was in the best condition of any motorcycle accident they had seen, and they said they see a lot of it in the area. I had very minimal road rash and none where I was wearing the padding, which was elbows, shoulders, hips, knees, and back,” recalls Renee.

The Gear That Shielded Her

Renee wasn’t just riding with passion—she was riding responsibly. Under her jacket, she wore a full set of Pando Moto protective base layer and armored leggings with CE-certified protectors for shoulders, elbows, back, hips, and knees. She also wore heavy-duty motorcycle gloves.

Pando Moto’s armored base layers are crafted from high-performance textiles like BALISTEX®—a material engineered to withstand extreme abrasion while remaining breathable and lightweight. The body armor inserts are CE-approved and designed to absorb impact. Once on the body, the motorcycle gear becomes a rider’s second skin.

After the crash, Renee’s motorcycle gear for women was almost untouched—no tears, just minor scuffs. Her skin? Unscathed. Just some bruises. Proof that the motorcycle riding gear did exactly what it was built for.

“Without that gear,” she says now, “this would have been a completely different story.”

From Trauma to a New Perspective

Renee is now on her way to a full physical recovery, which is progressing even better than she imagined after such a terrible accident. This experience gave her a new outlook—not just on riding, but on the importance of investing in safety gear that does more than just look good. Now? She refuses to ride without it:

“I believe I’m here today, and healing so well, because I made the choice to wear protective gear. I want my fiancé, who is a track driver, to wear Pando Moto as well.“

A Message for Fellow Riders

For Renee, this wasn’t just a crash—it was a wake-up call. And now she’s sharing it with fellow bikers. “We don’t always get second chances,” she says. “But I did. Thanks to Pando Moto and God’s grace, I’m still here.” She adds, “I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for creating these products, and I will be wearing Pando Moto for the rest of my life. I also advocate that anyone riding should be wearing Pando Moto.”

It’s a clear message for everyone who lives for two wheels: great protective gear won’t change how you ride—but it just might change everything when it matters most.
